I'm doing this post in English in hope of drawing a wider audience from around the blogosphere and beyond!
I just read a post on the Game of Thrones TV show over at Pat's, and it got me once again thinking about how long that show is going to last. We know for a fact that HBO, Midas touch wonder people that they are, do not hesitate to cancel shows that aren't doing well enough, or that lead to nowhere. Examples include Deadwood and Carnivale. My point is that with A Dance with Dragons being in a state of publishing limbo, HBO only have source material for 3 seasons of their new show. I say 3 because season 4 might be difficult to do on a TV show, what with only half the story having been told.
This means that if we allow for one year for HBO do adapt and shoot the fifth book of the series, and if they decide to go ahead and do season 4 the way the fourth book is written, then George Martin has 3 years to finish the current volume, and then only one year to finish each of the subsequent books. He's already spent 5 or 6 years (if not more) on the fifth book in the series, so I have my doubts that he could write a book in a year. I have never criticised George Martin for being slow, and this shouldn't be considered a criticism. I'm only saying that, following my logic, Martin needs to speed things up if he doesn't want to see this TV show cancelled after 3 seasons.
That having been said, let me only say that I am so eager for this show to come on that I can hardly sleep at night!
